Rock On!!!!

Hey... its been ages i have written... i say that as if i wroe avidly and people read everything i wrote.... anyways it really doesnt matter.... hey i saw this movie last nite... ROCK ON!!!! lovely movie.... warning to anyone reading thsi blog.... there are spoilers ahead... so if you dont wanna know about the movie before you watch it dont read ahead... but yeah if you really dont care... do read and do tell me what you think about what i wrote....
To start off with, i felt the casting was well, above par. All the actors filled the shoes of their respective charachters to the hilt. Farhan Akhtar was good, infact very good. and for a change i really really liked Arjun Rampal. Yaar his character a total hot head loser, is the typical person we all have seen on the streets of Mumbai.
Luke Kenny and Purab Kohli were sublime. I mean i have been a fan of Luke Kennys choice of music (V-Late Nights) and Purab has always been easy to watch on screen. Koel Purie was beautiful, but wasted. I mean too short a role.
The debutant Prachi Desai did little justice to her TV watching fans. I have never seen her in any soaps but with the hype around 'Bani', i expected a better show. Nevertheless if she was any normal debutant i would have praised her for the portrayal of a wife who wants to live life, but instead is just existing. Its scary for young ambitious couples to see such families on screen, to think what if your married life turns out to be this dead pan. But well the movie ends with a happy family obviously so its back to rosy days.
Amongst the cast the icing and the cake goes to Shahana Goswami, playing the role of Arjun Rampals supportive girlfriend and then the disgruntled, nagging and working wife. I am sure this role is gonna get her more and more roles in the future. She doesnt look out of place as a teenager neither when she is a fish seller mother of a 7 year old. Infact all the actors look at ease even with the time lapse.
The story is well predictable, but handled with care so that the screenplay is fresh. The very fact that slowly building ego clashes can seperate even the best of friends was shown without the zabardasti ka nataks between the two protagonists. Many guys will relate to the scene in the basement where after 10 years the band reunites and the two just hug each other and all that has past is in the past. Without being 'KJOish' i should add. beautifully done both by the directors and by the actors.
By the end it was the mature performance by each that made you feel comfortable, since the story then was drawing to a typical conclusion where Joe would obviously come to the stage half way on his wasy abroad and then the band will succeed and Rob will die and all is happy.
Farhan Akhtars portrayal of a man torn between his band, Robs health and Joes good future as wanted by his wife was gentle and perfect and so was Prachi Desais expressions when she understood that her husband is lost in confused thought (this was pretty much through the movie).
Bad points were that the sadness in each charachter was too obviously shown too early, could have been done in a more subtle way. but that can be discounted on the whole movie. Also point to be seen in how does Joe play his electric guitar on stage without a wire. That was amazing. I mean i dont know if wireless technology exists there too.
All in all loved the movie. Will watch it again, but not so sure on the big screen. loved the way the audience laughed when the message in the end came "dont download music, buy the CD."
till the next movie... adios amigos...
